NATIONAL AND RELIGIOUS HOLIDAYS
Generally, government institutions and private organizations work five days a week, from Monday to Friday. Some companies or manufacturers may require work on Saturdays and even on Sundays. Ecuadorians work a forty hour week, usually from 7 am to 4 PM. Some prefer 8 to 5, with one hour of lunch break; while others will choose continuous work for 8 hours with breaks at a specified time. Some industrial plants work two shifts, and even some work three shifts, 24 hours a day, seven day per week, depending on the kind of manufacturing operations they are involved in. National and Religious Holidays are days dedicated to the commemoration of historic events or religious activities and are work-free with pay.
