Ecuador's Overview
Imagine yourself on the Equator, in the warm coasts of the Pacific Ocean, looking at an unimaginable variety of landscape, a huge abundance of natural resources, and an enormous richness of traditional culture. This diverse and unspoiled land, its natural ecosystem and traditional cultures makes of Ecuador, an enchanting, and unforgettable land to visit again and again. So, if you have set your sights in Ecuador for a vacation time or to settle in, either way, it will resemble the most enchanting vacation you ever have decided to take.
But also if you are you searching in an effort to find potential places where to make your investments, you need not look more: That place is Ecuador. Nestled at the heart of South America and surrounded by most of the South American countries, this growing region is looking for expansion in the global world of today and beyond. Sitting on the coasts of the Pacific Ocean, Ecuador lays on the equator line, hence its name. Its tropical climate, mild to the equator, is very generous to the visitor, including days and nights of 12 hours each. No playing back and forth with the clock, no daylight Savings Time. The cold winds from the Andean Mountains and the breeze created by the freezing Humboldt current coming from the South Pole in the Pacific Ocean moderates the tropical hot weather of this land refreshing and making it very pleasant, similar to the weather of California, in the USA. The narrow and steep strip of land between the ocean and the Andes creates a great variety of altitudes, temperature, and vegetation. You can be at the beaches of the Pacific Ocean or in the jungles of Esmeraldas, and drive just a few hours to find yourself at the snows of Chimborazo. Snow and jungle on the Equator. Can you believe it? Clear skies and warm rainy seasons are characteristic of the weather for most of the country. Average temperatures range from 60 to 90F in the coastal lowlands (Costa) to 50 to 70F in the mountainous Central Highlands (Sierra). Snowfall seldom occurs, but there is frequent hail precipitation on the Central Highlands. Some mountains are permanently covered with ice. Predominant seasons are winter and summer. Winter, which lasts from December to May, is hot and humid with lots of rainfall in the coastal region; while the highlands are cold and rainy. Summer goes from June through December, is characterized by a cooler and dryer period with excellent weather with all plants in spring bloom. You may say that Ecuador has six months of spring. Nowhere in the world can you find six months of spring. This is the perfect place for a summer vacation. Ecuador is divided geographically into four regions: the coastal lowlands in the West, along the sea (Costa), the volcanic central highlands between the Andean Mountains (Sierra), the Amazon Jungle beyond the Andes in the East (Amazon region), and the Galapagos Islands in the Pacific Ocean. The country has two permanent watercourses: the one that runs to the Pacific Ocean with rivers such as Esmeraldas, Guayas, Jubones among the most important; and the other watercourse with large rivers such as Putumayo, Coca, Napo, Zamora, affluent of the Amazon River and a part integral of the Amazon System, runs to the Atlantic. Virgin land provides water quality, free of chemical contamination and pollutants.
